Council requests DPS briefing on snow operations and asks mayor to allow city lot for snow mitigation
Summary
Following heavy storms, Councilor Peach moved for the DPS director and staff to brief the Public Services Committee on snow operations; Councilor Rosnol also asked the mayor to temporarily fence a city-owned lot for use as a snow-mitigation site.
Councilor Peach asked that the director of Public Works and relevant staff appear before the Public Services Committee to brief the council on snow‑removal operations, constraints experienced during recent storms and lessons learned. Peach said the briefing would be most useful while snow remains on the ground and asked the chair to help schedule it promptly.
Councilor Rosnol separately moved to request the mayor install a temporary fence around a city‑owned lot at the corner of Chestnut and L Street so the city can use that property for snow mitigation rather than relying on private lots. Councilors supported working with the mayor’s office to pursue the temporary measure.
Council President Michael Higgins acknowledged the large effort by DPS crews during the recent storms and indicated staff would work with councilors to schedule the requested committee briefing.
No formal appropriation was associated with the motions; both items were requests for administrative action and committee follow-up.
