Board approves $2.78 million bid package for Rockville Elementary renovation

Administrators presented and the board approved a $2,782,557 bid package for Rockville Elementary, awarding recommended contracts for general trades, flooring, HVAC/plumbing and building controls.

Charlie, the district’s TechCon point person, said work will begin in the northeast wing (area B/pre‑K rooms) over spring break and that a preconstruction meeting and background checks for workers will proceed immediately. "We're really going to get started construction really here in a couple weeks," Charlie said, describing plans to erect temporary walls and isolate construction zones so students remain separated from work areas.

The bid packet named Strode Construction for the general trades and electrical package, Jack Lori Floors for flooring, Fry Tag Weinhardt for HVAC and plumbing, and Jackson Systems and Supply for building controls. Administrators explained the controls selection balances price with the benefits of system compatibility across district buildings; they flagged that proprietary control systems can limit interoperability and recommended the board consider compatibility in the selection.

Officials said about $796,000 has already been spent on the project and that the current recommended bids leave room under the previously communicated budget figure. The administration said classrooms that require new restrooms and casework will take longer than rooms receiving HVAC and ceiling replacements and outlined a sequencing plan to minimize disruption during the school year.

Board members voted to accept the recommendations. The administration said it will provide updated budget tracking and schedule milestones as the project advances.
