The Tippecanoe County personnel committee reported changes to its membership and described steps to improve communication with departments on job classifications and reclassifications.
Satie, presenting the personnel committee report, said the committee will now include one commissioner, the council president and a designate, one elected department head and one appointed department head (the auditor and HR director will continue as non-voting members). "We determined that there needs to be better communication," Satie said, describing a new process that allows WHIS (the committee's classification consultant) to contact department heads directly after submissions reach WHIS.
Satie also told the council that most county pay issues are compensation-related rather than classification-related and that the committee will continue to monitor workload and position counts. On benefits, Satie reported total benefits spending from fund 4710 at just over $3 million; Anthem-related claims and administration were cited around $2.44 million. The committee plans a 24-month look-back to inform premium projections and expected to report updated estimates next month.
The personnel committee said it will continue monthly meetings (typically following council) and will bring nominations for elected and appointed department-head seats to the council as needed.
