District says suspicious activity near high school was not credible; praised police response

The Lacey Township School District reported that a law-enforcement notification about suspicious activity near Lacey Township High School at about 7:30 a.m. on May 13 prompted the district to implement a secure protocol across all schools.

Superintendent (presenting during the board meeting) said the district worked in close coordination with the Lacey Township Police Department and other law-enforcement partners, and that the reported threat was quickly determined not to be credible and was specific to the high-school area. "Every decision made this morning was done in real time in collaboration with law enforcement and with the primary goal of ensuring the safety and well-being of our students and staff," the superintendent said.

Board President Claus opened the meeting by formally recognizing and commending the district's law-enforcement partners and internal security team for what she called the "immediate and coordinated action" that ensured students and staff were protected and informed. "To our Lacey Police Department, we are profoundly grateful for your partnership and your unwavering commitment to our schools," President Claus said.

Officials said additional law-enforcement partners — including county sheriffs and neighboring-township officers — assisted on site. The superintendent and board members said the district will continue close coordination with law enforcement and praised staff and transportation teams for bringing students into buildings rather than leaving them at bus stops during the precautionary response.

No injuries or credible threat was reported at the meeting. The superintendent said the district will continue to review and post information as appropriate.
