Bluffton Elementary School won its first-round matchup in the Beaufort County School District’s Battle of the Books, the local news broadcast reported.
An elementary student said the team "kind of met up in the library sometimes and we would use our computers to do flashcards to each other" and that they studied together at lunch to prepare. A middle school student at H. McCracken Middle School described teamwork and tactics used in the middle-school rounds: using whiteboards, dividing responsibility for different books and practicing quick responses to the quiz questions.
The segment said elementary teams answer questions from six assigned chapter books and middle school teams are tested on seven books; the full contest video is available on the school district’s YouTube channel.
The broadcast focused on preparation and teamwork rather than tournament-wide standings beyond the reported first-round win.
