Hamilton County Health Department Director Jason LeMaster asked the Board of Commissioners on March 9 to authorize modest expenditures tied to the department’s accreditation review and to pursue vehicle replacements via leased fleet vehicles.
LeMaster requested $175 for snacks and refreshments for partners and reviewers during an on-site national accreditation visit scheduled for March 25; commissioners approved the modest meal authorization by roll call.
LeMaster also proposed replacing four nine-year-old department vehicles with Enterprise lease vehicles, estimating combined lease cost around $2,300 per month with full maintenance included. Commissioners discussed earlier concerns about Enterprise service quality and whether a formal financial analysis had been completed. Staff said funding is available in the department’s budget and that the approach had been discussed with council. The board approved the department’s move to lease vehicles and referred the financing step to council for appropriation as needed.
Commissioner comments emphasized the need for department-level cost analysis and ongoing oversight; staff noted some county departments maintain existing Enterprise agreements and that the sheriff’s office has had generally positive experiences with leased vehicles.
