Hamilton County commissioners on March 9 voted to reject the single quote received to repair guardrail and a retaining wall on Olio Road near the bridge over Gist Reservoir after staff reported the bid was much higher than the county engineer’s estimate and above the county’s procurement threshold.
Public Works staff said the damage resulted from a traffic accident; the site has been cordoned off and crews completed partial cleanup. Commissioners pressed staff to identify whether the responsible party’s insurance could cover the repairs so taxpayers would not shoulder the full cost. Legal and risk-management staff were asked to contact the county’s insurance carrier and the claimant’s insurer to determine coverage limits and settlement options.
Staff indicated they advertised on Feb. 11, received only the one quote, and will pursue alternate procurement approaches to obtain competitive pricing or negotiate with insurers. The motion to reject the quotes carried on a roll call vote.
