The House Public Safety Committee on Friday set its subcommittee structure for the 2026 session, naming a firearms subcommittee and a second, catchall group that will take up miscellaneous items.
Chair Marcus Simons said the firearms subcommittee will be chaired by Delegate Nadarius Clark and that the second subcommittee will be chaired by Delegate Sam Rasul. Membership for both panels was read aloud and the chair said the rosters will be published on the Legislative Information System (LIS).
Simons asked members to look for subcommittee notifications and said he expected subcommittee meetings on Thursday before the committee’s next Friday meeting.
The announcement came after introductory remarks by members and a session in which the governor’s nominee for Secretary of Public Safety appeared before the committee; the committee adjourned without taking a formal vote on the nomination.
