Mayor Winski and the council cited the Celery Farm Nature Preserve and said the species has nested in multiple locations in Allendale for more than two decades. The proclamation describes the hawk, Buteo lineatus, as an ecologically important raptor and says the designation is meant to "raise public awareness about the importance of wildlife habitat preservation and the borough's commitment to environmental stewardship." The council presented a framed proclamation and posed for photographs to be displayed in Borough Hall.
The proclamation also referenced community education and conservation as reasons for the honor and credited a carved bird displayed in Borough Hall to carver Styles Thomas. No formal vote count was recorded in the minutes beyond the ceremonial presentation. The town plans to hang the framed proclamation at Borough Hall and share the photo of the presentation with the public.
