Parks staff report: pools prepped, cameras installed, trails and recreation ramping up for summer

Parks and recreation staff updated the Greenwood Park Board on operational preparations for the busy season.
Brooke, the aquatics lead, said all three pools have been drained and are being pressure-washed; staff are prepping pump houses and expect to start filling and sanitizing pools ahead of the Memorial Day weekend opening. Hiring is complete for aquatics roles and Brooke estimated a roughly 50–60% return rate among seasonal staff; additional certification and emergency-action-plan trainings are scheduled.
Staff also reported completion of new camera hardware at Freedom Springs that will be brought online soon to improve facility safety. Parks staff said restrooms, water fountains and dog parks are open; irrigation systems are being turned on and the splash pad will be activated shortly. Arbor Day tree giveaway preparations are scheduled for later in the week.
On facilities and capital work, trails staff reported survey crews are working on alignment and grade checks for the Cherry Tree Walk from Spring Park to Honey Creek. Parks staff discussed winterization checks and contractor remobilization for Westside tennis courts before asphalt work begins; staff said contractors are starting to reschedule and remobilize pending final approval and site checks.
Recreation staff said field usage and practice slots have been busy since March with many evening practice slots full through June; soccer, tiny-tot programs and adult softball are starting and summer camp planning is underway. Field house staff said April–May is typically a slower window used for maintenance while staff are deployed to busier divisions.
No formal board actions were required for these operational updates; staff will proceed with scheduled maintenance, training, and contractor coordination.
