The Edison Township Council voted unanimously on Feb. 25 to adopt ordinance 2276, authorizing negotiated property acquisitions and interests required to construct a drainage project affecting Calvert Avenue, Albert/Abbott Court, Wayne and Huntington Road.
Council members described the ordinance as a key step toward beginning the drainage work, with one member calling the effort a "dream come true" that should enable the project to begin once funding is assigned in the budget. The clerk opened and closed the public portion with no speakers on the item, and council proceeded to a roll-call vote in which each member recorded a yes vote.
The administration said the acquisition is necessary to deliver the planned drainage improvements. Council recorded the adoption by roll call and the meeting included brief applause following the vote.
Next steps include executing negotiated agreements with affected property owners and reflecting the project funding in the township budget.
