Warr Acres Planning Commission members voted unanimously March 10 to recommend approval of a use-subject-to-review application for a tax-preparation office proposed at 5835 and 5837 Northwest 50th Street.
The applicant, who did not provide a personal name for the record, told commissioners the company has operated since 2017, that the manager joined in 2019 and that the business has grown rapidly while serving clients nationwide. "We are a company that exists since 2017... we have had more than 100% growth ever since I joined the company," the applicant said.
Daryl Der, the property owner who identified himself and gave an address for the record, said the tenant has renovated the roughly 2,900-square-foot interior, expects to employ about 10 people and is family-oriented. "They've done a beautiful renovation... they probably dropped about 20,000 plus into it," Der said.
A staff member told the commission the site remains zoned C-3 and is subject to review under the town-center overlay, but because no exterior changes requiring overlay architectural review are proposed staff recommended approval. "We recommend approval of the application," the staff member said and noted staff had received no public objections.
Commissioner Plum Tree moved to open the public hearing, and after no members of the public opposed the proposal the commission closed the hearing and voted to recommend approval. Roll-call votes recorded Vonair, Plum Tree, Schiff, Corey, Davis, Clifton, Johnson and Lipton as voting yes.
The planning commission is an advisory body; the city council is the final decision-maker. The council will consider the application at its meeting next week at 6 p.m. in the same room where the commission met.
