District awaits state aid numbers, updates school calendar and reports $189,000 election reimbursement

The Toms River Regional School District’s budget and finance committee was told that district officials expect state aid numbers to be posted the day after the meeting after the Department of Education updates its budget program. Staff distributed a revised district calendar to account for four additional snow days and several half days; the calendar moves committee and board meetings one week, sets graduation dates (middle school May 17, high school May 18) and lists the last day of school as June 19 (half day). The calendar changes will be on the board agenda for approval next week.
Committee staff also reported the district received $189,000 from the Department of Education to reimburse special-election costs for the Seaside Heights referendum held in April 2024. The reimbursement had been submitted previously and was processed recently, the district said.
On the purchasing agenda addendum, staff said they will declare an emergency to hire loaders for snow removal after recent storms and intend to pursue reimbursement for the second storm through state and federal emergency programs. Officials described the district’s approach as seeking all available reimbursements but did not report final outcomes.
The committee did not take any formal budget votes during the session; items will return to the full board for formal consideration.
