A Columbiana resident told the City Council on March 3 that his family has endured chronic low pressure and extended periods without household water for roughly 18 months and that he has been unable to resolve the problem through the Columbiana Water Board.
The resident, introduced to the council as Mr. Brasher, described repeated episodes in which water would come and go and stretches when he said there was no water at all at his home on 81 Seal Road. “I have not had any water for over a year and a half at my house. I have three kids. One of them’s one year, just turned one years old who’s dependent on formula,” Mr. Brasher said.
He said he has continued paying the water bill (usually the minimum) despite the lack of service, that he has provided water from family members’ homes to care for his household and animals, and that the Columbiana Water Board repeatedly told him the issue was on the customer side. He said he has plumbing and water licensing experience and that he replaced his service line at his own cost with no improvement. He also told the council that a nearby fire response encountered insufficient water at a hydrant during a house fire, raising a public‑safety concern.
Mayor Lisa S. Davis said the Water Board is a separate entity from city government but that the council would try to assist by making phone calls and reviewing information provided by the Water Board. “We’ll try to make some phone calls and see how we can try to help you because at the end of the day, you know, you have children that you’re trying to provide for,” Mayor Davis said.
Council members invited Mr. Brasher to remain after the meeting to review materials the Water Board provided and to supply contact information for follow‑up. The council did not take formal action at the meeting; Mayor Davis said staff would investigate and return with any next steps.
