Council unanimously dedicates Columbiana youth baseball field to Richard Sutton

Columbiana — The City Council voted unanimously to adopt Resolution 02-26-02 to dedicate Field C at the Columbiana Sports Complex to longtime youth-sports volunteer Richard Sutton.
Blake Bryant, president of the Chevy County Youth Baseball League, described Sutton's more than four decades of service in youth baseball, football and basketball and asked the council to authorize a mounted sign on the Field C scoreboard and a plaque presentation on opening day, March 14. "We are wanting to dedicate one of our fields at the Columbiana Sports Complex ... we are asking that we could name it Sutton Field," Bryant said.
Council members praised Sutton's mentoring role with multiple generations of athletes. A motion to accept Resolution 02-26-02 was moved and seconded and the council approved the resolution by unanimous voice/show of hands.
Bryant said the league will present the plaque during opening day and install an 8-foot donated sign centered beneath the scoreboard to carry the same font and color as the complex's cover field sign. The council did not record amendments or dissent.
