Board approves memorial playground piece honoring student Becker Minnick at Windgate Elementary

The Mesa County Valley School District No. 51 Board voted Oct. 21 to approve a memorial naming request for Windgate Elementary.
Tammy and Callie explained a new district naming process and presented paperwork for donor-funded adaptive playground equipment purchased in memory of Becker Minnick, a former Windgate student who later attended Redlands Middle School and died this summer after a health-related illness. Principal Amy said Becker frequently used adaptive equipment on campus and that his family and community donors requested a specific piece be purchased and dedicated in his honor. Amy read the proposed plaque wording: "In celebration of Becker, whose joy and courage inspire play for all, always loved, never forgotten, forever missed."
The board voted to approve the memorial and asked staff to notify the family about dedication details; the equipment is scheduled for installation in December and the school will invite board members to the dedication.
