Additional asbestos abatement is planned in existing locker rooms beginning in March; that work must be finished before certain construction phases can begin.
The presentation showed renderings and floor plans. The first construction phase will focus on the southwest corner — a new weight room, wrestling room addition and replacement locker rooms — with a planned turnover near November in time for the Warrior Classic. Subsequent phases include a two‑story central addition connecting older buildings and new science classrooms on the second floor.
Contracting teams cited local architect BLE and national partner DLR, with FCI Constructors as the general contractor. Board members asked about student and family engagement in design advisory groups; presenters said staff, students and open houses were part of the process. The board was told the abatement and packing work requires staff contract days and pre‑planning so classrooms can be packed and moved during the summer.
