City staff presented the annual proposed budget summary and said it was delivered electronically on May 5 to satisfy a statutory requirement that the city publish a summary in advance of public hearings. Janine, a city staff member, told the council the document includes overall revenues and expenditures for each fund and a general fund summary broken down by cost center.
"By state statute, we of course are obliged to publish the proposed budget summary in advance of the hearings that you will conduct in late May to review the budget recommendation and then ultimately adopt the budget in early June," Janine said.
The staff overview said the summary runs about six pages and is intended to give the public a brief overview of the budget as it will be presented at the upcoming hearings. Councilors were invited to submit questions to Janine or Jill, who were listed as staff contacts for the item.
The council did not take action on the budget at the session; staff said the next step is the public hearings in late May, followed by a scheduled adoption vote in early June.
