The Millville City Commission voted unanimously Feb. 3 to approve changes to the salary ordinance that adjust pay ranges and add several positions left off earlier negotiations.
During the ordinance’s public hearing, resident Tamara Davis asked how percentage increases were calculated and whether some titles were duplicated, citing specific concern that a construction official and a construction official/director of inspections appeared to have overlapping duties with differing top pay. "What was the percent increase for each of these positions? Was it a straight across percentage or was it based on certain positions?" Davis asked.
A commissioner replied that the increases were negotiated before the current commission took office and that some positions were included to restore pay to a certain level. The speaker also said the new municipal administrator would review unfilled positions to determine necessity and overlap.
The ordinance advanced on second reading and was approved by roll call. Commissioners said they would continue to examine position duties and vacancies to avoid redundancies and to ensure the pay structure matched job responsibilities.
The discussion preceded other municipal business, including appointments and resolutions.
