North Brunswick highlights STEM pathways, HBCU college tour and AP achievements

Principal Mr. Neller outlined the structure and growth of the STEM academy (engineering and computer science coursework in 9th grade, a medical careers pathway, and an upcoming environmental science pathway) and the business academy for grades 10–12. He noted partnerships with area universities, including recurring visits under a "Ruby" program intended to expose students to college business education.
Administrators and student leaders presented a student‑led summary of a recent HBCU college tour. Student speakers described visits to Morgan State, Norfolk and other historically Black colleges and universities, calling the trip "phenomenal" and saying it broadened their awareness of campus life and academic options; 41 students attended the trip.
Music and performing arts leaders reported ensemble successes: the honors wind ensemble earned a historic gold ranking, the chamber orchestra and select strings earned strong festival ratings, and the winter percussion group is a multi‑year state champion. District director of music Miss Nelman and ensemble directors highlighted master classes with university faculty and regional festival performances.
Academic recognitions included an announcement that North Brunswick Township High School received the College Board AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award (one of 237 schools nationally) for AP Computer Science A, prior awards for AP Computer Science Principles, and selection as one of 17 New Jersey pilot schools for the AP Career: Cybersecurity program. Administrators also reported AP performance: more than 100 students recognized as AP Scholars in 2023–24 and 21 students earning the AP Capstone diploma.
These announcements emphasize curricular expansion, college exposure, and arts programming as priorities for the district; the presentations were informational and no new district policies or budgets were enacted during the session.
