Teachers tell board targeted, schoolwide strategies ahead of iLearn checkpoints

Presenters Allison and Cara summarized a plan the district adopted at the start of the year: professional development using Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) resources, flexible grouping based on checkpoint data, targeted interventions for students who have not yet mastered skills, coordinated instructional coaching, and explicit instruction in test-taking strategies. They emphasized that this work is embedded instruction rather than narrow test prep.
Administrators said elementary checkpoint averages are generally on par with state averages and slightly higher than the prior year; middle- and high-school teams are using data boards and student-facing conversations about goals to drive improvement. Teachers noted subject-specific tactics such as Greek and Latin root work in sixth grade to support comprehension across disciplines.
Board members asked for questions; administrators thanked leadership teams and teachers for the implementation and said they would continue to update the board on checkpoint and assessment outcomes.
