Eastern Greene Schools’ board on March 9 approved a slate of routine but consequential items including the 2027–28 school calendar, the second reading of NEOLA policy updates, several procurement items tied to the district’s bond projects, and multiple personnel actions.
Mr. Bliss, speaking for district administration, asked the board to approve the 2027–28 calendar and the NEOLA updates and said the calendar will mirror typical holidays and be posted for families. The board moved and approved both items.
On facilities and procurement, the board authorized a request for proposals for a high-school HVAC building-management system upgrade, citing an obsolete control platform that cannot be upgraded. The board also approved purchase of construction-specific liability insurance for three projects — the central campus, the high school and the early learning center — described by administration as totaling less than $10,000 (roof project ~ $5,000; the other policies roughly $1,500–$2,000 each). Administration said those costs will be charged to bond project funds rather than the operating budget.
The board approved a two-year contract with Nante Property Management to manage a district-owned rental house; administration said the provider is local and has worked with the district previously.
Personnel items approved included acceptance of Shandra Jackson’s resignation as early learning center coordinator effective March 20, 2026, authorization to hire Ashton E. as payroll assistant (start date to be determined), approval of several retirements (Karen White, Lori Markle and Sandy Yoho at the end of the 2025–26 contract year) and authorization of administrative contracts for the 2026–27 school year. One retirement vote was recorded at 5–1–0. Multiple donations were accepted, including a $5,000 anonymous gift for the middle-school Washington, D.C. trip.
A late bid award for high-school chiller work was also approved. Administration presented three bids and recommended the low bidder, HFI; two of the bids were close at about $60,000 and the board approved moving forward with the recommended vendor so the district can restore the chiller’s full capacity.
The meeting concluded with routine announcements about upcoming events and construction schedules tied to the district’s bond projects. The board adjourned at 7:27 p.m.
