East-project updates: turf, signs and roof work moving forward, district reminds public funds are restricted

Dr. Michael Bar, presenting the construction and East projects update, told the board that monument signage at Clemens Middle, Flint Hill Elementary and East Side High is nearing completion and that furniture installation at East Newton Elementary is scheduled for summer 2026.
At Alco (Alcovy) High School, field turf installation is complete and the scoreboard and underground wiring are in progress, Dr. Bar said. Middle-school campus work has reached subsurface utility and slab phases, and concession/restroom building construction is underway at several middle schools.
Board members stressed transparency about funding sources. One member reminded the public that the athletic and building projects reported under the East program are funded by the one-penny SPLOST (local sales tax) and cannot be used for general operating expenses.
