Rutherford County staff opened and read 10 bids for the EMS building expansion and the Smyrna Clerk's Office drive‑thru, publicly identifying contractors, license information and base bids. Staff said each bid package appeared to include required items (addenda acknowledgements, bid bonds, qualification statements) and that several firms will be taken under advisement for further review and verification.
Examples read into the record included RC Matthews (base bid read as $1,842,674), Baron Construction (base bid $1,899,000), Drake Creek Builders (base bid $1,446,579) and CNC Contracting (base bid $1,390,650). Staff said these and the other bids will be tabulated and staff expect to return with a formal recommendation to the county mayor’s office and the commission at the Feb. 17 meeting.
Procurement staff explained the next steps: verify licensing and documentation, follow up with clarifying questions to bidders if needed, and prepare a bid-tabulation for commissioners. The commission took the bids "under advisement" and set Feb. 17 as the date for staff recommendation and possible award action.
No contract award or reductions were decided at the opening; the public reading established transparency for the procurement process and started the verification timeline.
