Trustees heard complaints March 9 that handicapped parking spaces near the library entrance were not plowed following recent storms, leaving some patrons unable to use designated spaces.
Director Ryan said facilities and DPW were aware and that staff had told affected patrons they could temporarily use the area in front of the book drop for short stays or the handicapped van space nearer the walkway while the lot remains icy. "They are starting to get better," Ryan said, and he acknowledged the board should coordinate with DPW next winter to ensure handicapped spots receive priority clearing.
Board members noted that some regular parking spaces were also inaccessible after the storm and that the volume of snow had constrained where snow could be placed. Trustees agreed this was an area to monitor and committed to seeking better coordination in future storm responses to keep designated handicapped spots accessible to patrons.
Next steps: staff will continue to follow up with DPW on clearing priorities and inform patrons of temporary accommodations when necessary.
