Service director flags $100,000 cost increase for High Street sewer redesign; homeowners may face reassessment if bids change

The committee received an update on High Street sewer and street repairs: staff reported a redesign is necessary because the county's large-diameter brick sewer makes installing a manhole infeasible at the original outlet. The redesign routes the storm sewer along Key Street, adds sidewalk and a second structure, and raised the project cost by roughly $100,000 that staff said the city had agreed to absorb under an earlier resident agreement.
Service staff said the project was bid last year and sold to the contractor Crest Line; staff will meet with the contractor to determine whether the previously bid prices can still be honored. If Crest Line will not honor last year’s prices the city may need to rebid and homeowners previously assessed for the street portion could see new assessment amounts based on updated bids.
Service staff said the redesign would also require relocation or abandonment of several water taps in the project area; the committee requested staff provide updates after the meeting with the contractor.
