Oley Valley FFA students report state placings, new coop and community projects to school board

Valley FFA officers presented to the Oley Valley School District board, highlighting competition results, community service and a new student‑run egg program.

"My name is Hannah. I'm the president of the Valley FFA chapter this year," said Hannah House, the chapter president, who led the presentation and introduced officers. She told the board 34 members attended the Pennsylvania State Convention; the chapter’s food science team advanced to the Eastern States Exposition (Big E) and placed second. Individual students earned top placings in events including dairy evaluation and FFA knowledge.

House also described chapter service and on‑campus agriculture projects: members landscaped school grounds, cared for small animals, and ran raised beds that supplied local food banks. The chapter earned second place for its scrapbook and third place for total pounds donated. House said the Oley Valley Education Foundation funded construction of a new coop built by agricultural engineering students; the program will sell eggs to support feed and bedding at $4 a dozen.

Board members thanked the students and invited them to circulate to the dais after the meeting for individual recognition.

The presentation included a summary of competitive public speaking and Career Development Events (CDEs) where several students advanced to area or regional rounds. House said students plan to attend upcoming regional and state competitions and expressed appreciation for the district and foundation support.

The school board’s recognition of the FFA report came during the programs portion of the meeting; no formal board action was required. The district’s student representative and other administrators later provided routine academic and extracurricular updates, including a Mosaic concert and spring sports schedules.
