The Finance and Insurance Committee voted to forward a recommendation that the Board of Education approve an agreement with R&R Insurance to provide benefits-broker services for the district.
Nathan, who led the selection team, told the committee the district had evaluated benefits relationships for the first time in roughly 20 years, interviewed four firms (including incumbent USI) and chose R&R based on its pitch, references and a tool that could automate aspects of open enrollment and reduce staff labor. Nathan said the team included a member of human resources and staff from the business office.
Nathan noted that R&R "did the best job in the pitch" and that the firm's direct representative, Michelle Fralick, who has education experience, would introduce herself to the full board if the committee's recommendation passes. Committee members asked whether coverage would change; Nathan said a broker is an advisor and not the insurer, and that R&R would guide plan options rather than underwrite coverage.
The committee moved and seconded the recommendation and took a voice vote to forward the agreement to the full board for final approval.
