The Cocoa City Council unanimously approved a set of community‑selected figures to appear on a mural on the new Provos Park fitness court.
City staff said the city received 514 valid survey submissions asking participants to select up to six individuals; staff aggregated the six slots and removed duplicates and device duplicates per the survey rules. The top results were: Dr. W. O. Wells Sr., Ed Jones, Nathaniel Hooks, Rosemary McIll, Reisha Sims, Jesse Ruth Monroe and (tie for sixth/seventh) James Road Jr., which staff included as a seventh honoree because of the tied vote totals.
Deputy Mayor Goins moved to approve the seven names for inclusion in the mural; the council approved the motion unanimously. The mayor asked staff to invite family members and schedule a ceremonial recognition when the mural installation timeline is finalized. Staff said the mural will be produced in coordination with the fitness-court providers and will appear on the wall that separates the fitness equipment area from the exercise area.
Council discussion emphasized honoring local history and noted the selection came from a community process; staff confirmed they will return with design details and a schedule for public recognition.
