Pete Smith, business development director for Performance Services, presented a ceremonial $1,000 scholarship to a representative of Culver Community Schools during the district’s regular board meeting. "I'm here tonight to present a check to her and she may use it in any kind of way she'd like to for $1,000," Smith said during his remarks.
Smith, who introduced himself as a Performance Services employee and a former educator and administrator, said the company gives scholarship funds through activities at the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents conference and that the district was one of the recipients. He noted a colleague, Brad Schul, previously served as district superintendent and that Performance Services has done some work in the district.
Smith described the check as a public, ceremonial presentation for the board and audience; he said the physical prop was sized for visibility rather than bank processing. He also complimented the school gym and recounted returning to the area as a visiting guest and former coach.
The board acknowledged the presentation and moved on to the next agenda item.
