Local activists urge intervention in Mon Fau transmission docket before June 1 PSC deadline

Judy Della Garza, speaking for West Virginians Against Transmission Line Injustice at the May 6 Monongalia County Commission meeting, told commissioners that June 1 is the deadline to intervene in the Mon Fau docket before the West Virginia Public Service Commission and that her group will hold workshops to help people file intervenor paperwork.
Della Garza said PSC staff attorneys are pressing NextEra with substantive questions about the project’s load forecasts and the nature of contracts supporting the transmission proposal. “We were happy to see in the Mon Fau docket on the PSC website that the staff at Public Service Commission, the staff attorneys are asking some hard questions of NextEra,” she said, and encouraged local residents to attend workshops and file comments or petitions to intervene.
She said PJM-related deadlines for contract responses run through mid- to late summer and that the Mon Fau docket will have public hearings in mid-June for county residents. Della Garza offered flyers and asked the commission to share the materials on its social channels; commissioners accepted the flyer and said staff would circulate it.
