Asbury Park Planning Board completes reorganization and staff appointments

At its March 2, 2026 reorganization meeting the Asbury Park Planning Board completed routine officer nominations and confirmations for the coming year.

Chairwoman (referred to in the record as 'Kerzac') called the meeting to order, read the Open Public Meetings Act notice and conducted roll call. The board nominated and confirmed temporary and regular officers, including a temporary board secretary (Marie Rodriguez), and accepted temporary board counsel for the reorganization. The board also nominated and confirmed professional appointments: a board planner (as nominated on the record), board engineer (Leon Ivakian, as spoken) and board recording services (APV). The chair noted the municipality is still soliciting bids for conflict planners and conflict engineers; those positions remain open until the bid process is complete.

Committee rosters were proposed and approved on the record: Design Review, Bylaw/Policy and Master Plan committees were named with members indicated during the meeting. The board adopted its 2026 regular meeting schedule and designated official newspapers for public notice (the Coaster and Asbury Park Press, with the Star‑Ledger retained as an alternate/online source under the revised law allowing online publication).

The chair pulled a resolution from the evening’s agenda for additional wording review and scheduled that item for the March 16 meeting.

No controversial votes occurred during the reorganization; items were approved by voice or roll call as noted in the minutes. The board then proceeded to the 702 Somerfield Avenue application hearing later in the evening.
