The La Verne City Council opened a public-protest hearing June 3 on the Oldtown La Business Improvement District annual report and assessment before adopting a resolution to confirm the report and levy the district’s annual assessments.
Director Shear told the council the BID’s boundaries and the assessment formula have not changed since the district’s inception and that assessments are calculated based on business license and activity. "Staff is recommending that you open the public hearing, accept any protests, override any such protests and adopt the resolution that reaffirms the annual report and then applies the assessment to next fiscal year," Shear said.
The council opened the hearing and invited public comment; no protests were submitted during the public-comment period. Council members then moved, seconded and approved the resolution in a vote recorded as unanimous.
Why it matters: BID assessments fund services and improvements intended to support Oldtown La businesses, including marketing and streetscape work under the district’s management plan. The council’s action preserves the existing assessment formula and continues the district’s current boundary and funding approach into the next fiscal year.
What’s next: The assessment will be applied in the next fiscal year as described in the staff report. The council did not alter the district boundary or assessment methodology at the hearing.
