Temple City council confirms multiple commission appointments

Temple City’s City Council on July 16 unanimously approved a slate of commission appointments, adopting three resolutions that confirm incumbents and fill one unexpired Parks & Recreation seat.

Council moved and seconded the consolidated action and recorded a unanimous roll-call vote: Councilmembers Chen, Man and Sternquist, Mayor Pro Tem U and Mayor Tom Chavez voted yes. The council adopted Resolution 24-5764 confirming reappointments to the Planning Commission, Resolution 24-5765 confirming reappointments to the Parks & Recreation Commission and appointing one candidate to a one-year unexpired term, and Resolution 24-5766 confirming reappointments to the Transportation & Public Safety Commission. The city clerk was directed to administer the official oath before the commissioners’ first meetings and schedule a ceremonial oath at a future council meeting.

The ad hoc City Commissioner recruitment committee told the council it had reviewed 12 applications and interviewed candidates and recommended reappointing several incumbents. The committee recommended reappointing Serge Hadad and Tom (name as listed in recruitment materials) to the Planning Commission, reappointing Crystal Hadad and Jose Tarin to Parks & Recreation and appointing Kathy Burough to fill one year remaining on a vacated Parks & Recreation seat, and reappointing two incumbents to the Public Safety/Transportation commission.

Council comments praised commissioners’ volunteer service and encouraged community members to engage in future openings and outreach programs such as a Citizens Academy. The clerk will administer statutory oaths and the council plans a ceremonial administration at a later meeting.

What happens next: appointees will be sworn in prior to their first commission meetings; staff will coordinate scheduling for ceremonial oaths.
