Temple City youth committee recounts transit, sanitation and mosquito control tours; plans Lost Tunis walk

Members of Temple City's Youth Committee presented an end-of-year update at the Dec. 17 council meeting, summarizing site visits and outreach activities and outlining plans for early 2025.
"We visited Foothill Transit in El Monte on Saturday, September 14," Jessica said, describing a private tour that included the agency's double-deck bus project and the agency's goal of providing zero-emission service. She also summarized a public tour of the Sanitation District on Oct. 12, noting the district's work to convert waste into reusable water and energy.
Samira Ryland told the council the Mosquito and Vector Control District visited the committee on Nov. 21 to discuss monitoring and disease-prevention work. Evelyn summarized recent community engagement, including the committee's booth at the city's "Lights on TC" event and a planned walk with the mayor down Lost Tunis Drive to observe streetscape improvements. The committee also plans a "Friendsmas" gathering on Dec. 19 and will explore using videos and QR codes to create a Lost Tunis walking tour.
Council members praised the committee's outreach and student engagement and encouraged continued partnerships with the schools and local agencies. The committee said it will continue bimonthly meetings and follow up with mayoral staff about the Lost Tunis walk and educational materials.
