Residents raised alarms about rising burglaries in multiple neighborhoods during public comment at the Temple City City Council meeting on Dec. 17.
Mr. Ho told the council there has been an “increase of home burglary and car burglary” on his street and asked the city to “look into a ways to improve safety in our area.” Diane Luac described “multiple robberies and vandalism on our street,” said the neighborhood had not reported all incidents to the sheriff and said contract sheriff services feel inadequate.
The council and staff responded that city leaders are aware of the problem and are working with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Mayor Chavez said staff and the sheriff will continue to coordinate and encouraged residents to report incidents so the city can investigate. City Manager Brian Cook had met with residents and briefed the council on possible safety steps, according to speakers during public comment.
Council members and staff outlined immediate follow-ups: the city will continue neighborhood-watch coordination with the sheriff and process resident reports to help target enforcement and prevention activities. The mayor also invited residents to participate in regular neighborhood-watch meetings and asked that future complaints be reported promptly so staff and the sheriff can act.
The city did not announce new funding or a change to the police contract at the meeting; council members said more information and potential agenda items will return in future meetings after staff completes additional research and discussions with the sheriff's office.
