Board approves Prop 28 arts expenditure plans for 2026–27 at both high schools

The Los Gatos‑Saratoga Union High School District board approved Prop 28 expenditure plans for the 2026–27 school year for both Los Gatos High School and Saratoga High School.

A district staff presenter explained that Prop 28 funds are allocated to sites based on enrollment and that each site committee — including school staff, students and parents — developed its plan. The plans presented recommended continuing current offerings: orchestra, marching band, studio art/portfolio development, drama and technical theater, manufacturing tech, fashion design and foundational art classes at the high school level.

Principals and Prop 28 committee chairs described their committee processes and said the groups met in November and December to review program needs and fiscal constraints. Saratoga’s presentation highlighted that its visual arts and ceramics offerings continue to be available; Saratoga clarified that digital animation is included in visual arts offerings and that drama and technical theater requests are discussed across campus programs to avoid duplicative staffing demands.

Trustees asked about equity of offerings between sites; district staff responded that both schools were represented in committee discussions and that committees sought to maintain previously funded classes. A motion to approve the expenditure plans for both high schools was made, seconded and approved by roll call.

The board instructed staff to proceed with implementing the approved site expenditure plans; site committees will continue to refine budget details as the year progresses.
