Board approves contract renewals, grants and proclamations; routine votes carry with recorded dissent

At the May 6 meeting the Petersburg City Public Schools board moved through multiple consent and action items.
The superintendent recommended renewing the school nutrition and food service management contract (continuing a partnership in year two); the board approved the renewal after a motion, second and recorded opposition. The 2027 special education annual plan (IDEA/Preschool handicap allocations) and the 2027 Federal Perkins V CTE secondary programs application, both previously presented to the board, were each presented for approval and carried after motions and seconds with recorded dissent.
The board also approved proclamations for National Teacher Appreciation Week; Mental Health Awareness Month (theme: "More Good Days Together"); Month of the Military Child; and National Nurses Appreciation Week. Each proclamation was motioned, seconded and carried; meeting minutes recorded at least one opposing vote on each motion.
Board members asked for an overview of what 'year two' of the nutrition partnership will include; staff said a fuller update will come in summer planning materials. Where votes recorded opposition, the board chair announced the motions carried and the board moved on to information items.
