The Kingsport City Schools Board on May 12 approved two procurement items: a three‑year subscription for the Houghton Mifflin Harcourt 'Into Reading' elementary literacy program and a three‑year nonalcoholic beverage pouring rights and advertising partnership with PepsiCo.
Mr. Fry recommended the Into Reading purchase through the Tennessee Book Company for a three‑year price of $277,200 and requested a FY27 blanket purchase order for $275,000 to cover the current and anticipated textbook needs; he said buying a multi‑year subscription represents a savings of approximately $58,540 compared with single‑year purchases. The board moved and approved the purchase.
Administration also reported that request‑for‑proposals for beverage pouring rights had been opened and that proposals were submitted by PepsiCo and Coca‑Cola Consolidated; the administration recommended a three‑year agreement with PepsiCo to operate using high school and middle school internal funds. One board member asked for a cost comparison; administration said the specific cost difference would be provided to board members. The motion to enter a three‑year agreement with PepsiCo carried.
Both approvals were recorded on the consent/business agenda and passed without recorded roll‑call tallies in the transcript.
