Planning commission finalizes zoning rewrite; first reading to city council in June

The Frasier planning commission completed a final review of a citywide zoning ordinance update and recommended it for city‑council consideration, the Zoning Board of Appeals heard on May 7.
Planning staff and liaison members said the update clarifies several land‑use designations (for example, distinguishing light vs. major industrial uses and correcting mixed zoning on some parcels) and follows two readings and public comment at the planning commission. The planner said the ordinance will appear at city council for first reading in June; final adoption would follow whatever additional council process is required.
Staff also delivered the board's April monthly report: 21 zoning applications were reviewed during April (above the typical monthly average of 8–10), a special ZBA on April 14 approved a pole barn in a large‑acreage residential district, and one downtown bowling alley recently sold — with the buyer planning to continue it as a bowling alley.
The planner noted ongoing civic engagement during the ordinance rewrite and said former planner Lauren Ser will continue shepherding the zoning changes to city council.
