Council briefed on Resolution 26-24 to join MAG/Mesa fiber network for traffic data

A city staff presenter identified as "Joel" told the Apache Junction City Council on May 4 that Resolution 26-24 would authorize the city to join a regional fiber/optic system developed with ADOT and MAG and operated in part by the City of Mesa.
Joel said the connection would use two fiber strands and carry live traffic camera feeds and traveler information to support transportation management. He described the arrangement as part of Apache Junction's membership in the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) and said there is no fee charged by the City of Mesa for the connection. "What you have before you is resolution 26-24 which authorizes the City of Apache Junction to enter into this intergovernmental agreement," he said.
Staff characterized the proposed IGA as enabling better real-time traffic management and noted the work to reach the agreement involved city staff over the past year. No questions were raised on the record about legal or fiscal conditions attached to the IGA during the May 4 discussion.
Next steps: staff requested council approval of Resolution 26-24 and said the item will be brought forward for formal action per the normal council agenda process.
