Board sets fuel bid date, approves nurse hire, jailer termination and $500 for Wellman memorial

The Washington County Board of Supervisors on May 12 set a procurement date, approved personnel actions and agreed to contribute $500 toward the Wellman Veterans & First Responders Memorial Project.

County Engineer Jacob Thorius announced sealed bids for FY26-27 petroleum products are due June 1, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. in the County Engineer’s Office at 703 E. 7th Street, Washington; the Board approved setting the fuel letting date and will consider awarding the fuel contract at its June 9 meeting.

On a motion by Bob Yoder, seconded by Stan Stoops, the Board approved Public Health’s personnel change request to hire Registered Nurse Summer Lloyd at $36.00 per hour, effective May 18, 2026. Chairperson Jack Seward abstained from that vote; the minutes record the remaining supervisors voted in support.

Also on a motion by Yoder, seconded by Stoops, the Board approved the termination of jailer Jacob Baughman, effective May 1, 2026.

Wellman City Administrator Kelly Litwiller addressed the Board via Zoom seeking financial support for the Wellman Veterans & First Responders Memorial Project. Supervisor Richard Young moved to provide $500 for the project to be used as appropriate and not to include a recognition paver; Vice-Chairperson Marcus Fedler seconded the motion. Supervisors Jack Seward and Stan Stoops said they would contribute personal funds to purchase a paver in the County’s name. The motion to provide $500 was approved.

There were no department head comments. The Board adjourned at 9:22 a.m.
