San Juan Education Foundation reports more than $1 million invested in district programs this year

The San Juan Education Foundation presented a midyear update to the board, reporting stepped‑up grant making and fundraising that the foundation says has already delivered more than $1 million in direct investments to district schools.
Executive Director Colleen Cadwalader said the foundation awarded $106,000 in Propel transformation grants to six schools to support educator‑led projects, and that this year’s total educator grant funding has reached $154,000 so far. She listed projects funded by the grants including theater lighting upgrades, adaptive tricycles, shade structures and media equipment to support student programs.
“With these awards and through support from our community and partner organizations like Link Logistics and SMUD, the Foundation has now invested more than $1,000,000 directly into San Juan Unified schools,” Cadwalader said. She added that more than $50,000 in educator grants and another $50,000 in student scholarships remain to be awarded by the end of the school year.
The foundation encouraged staff and site teams to apply for funding and invited trustees to follow up with the foundation’s website for program details and application information.
Trustees thanked the foundation for its work and noted the impact of the grants on classroom technology, accessibility and student opportunities; the foundation said it will continue to align grantmaking with district goals to expand equitable access to resources.
