The Parks and Recreation Committee unanimously advanced two celebratory resolutions to the consent agenda, honoring the University of Akron men’s basketball team for winning the 2026 Mid‑American Conference championship and Archbishop Hoban High School’s girls basketball team for capturing the Division II Ohio state title.
Councilman Phil Lombardo, sponsor of both measures, described the Zips’ MAC victory as the program’s third straight conference championship and praised the team’s preparation and coaching. “They didn’t flinch,” Lombardo said of the Zips’ comeback in the title game.
Committee members exchanged congratulatory remarks. A councilmember who identified herself as a University of Akron alum praised the program’s achievement and noted the team’s upcoming NCAA tournament game in Tampa. The resolution for Archbishop Hoban credited coaches and seniors for a 72‑64 win over Mount Notre Dame and recognized coach Pam Davis in committee discussion.
Both resolutions were moved with a suspension of the rules and a favorable report by voice vote and were placed on the consent agenda for full council consideration.
