Stacey Below, polling location coordinator for the York County Board of Registration and Elections, said her office works to find and equip polling places so they "work for voters." She told the board that her responsibilities include ensuring clerks are staffed and that voting equipment is delivered and set up at each site.
"My job is make sure that they're equipped with everything that they need," Below said, describing the logistical steps the office takes before an election. She said that includes coordinating with clerks and transporting voting equipment.
Below said the office must often work around clerks' schedules and that when calendars do not align staff sometimes must move a polling location to secure appropriate staffing and facility availability. "We have to be able to move locations," she said.
She said she is responsible for identifying polling locations, maintaining relationships with site hosts and ensuring sites meet Americans with Disabilities Act requirements. "I am responsible for finding polling locations, uh maintaining those relationships, um and uh making sure that they're ADA compliant," Below said.
Below said the office tries to place polling locations close to voters to reduce travel and described the work as having many "moving parts." She added that the job involves a lot of interaction with people and community partners.
