Rohnert Park Foundation approves multiple small grants to local nonprofits and delegates clarifications on conditional awards

The Rohnert Park Foundation met as a board after the city council’s meeting on Feb. 28 and approved a slate of small grants drawn from the 2024–2026 cycle. Foundation staff reported 23 eligible applications requesting about $209,000; the review committee recommended 18 unconditional awards and five conditional awards that require clarifications.
Grants approved (representative examples): Burton Peace Park improvements (Kat Rohnert Park Rotary), First Responders Resiliency program, Credo High outdoor learning, University Elementary school garden (via School Garden Network), Tech High athletics support and robotics funding, and multiple food‑security and youth programs (Food For Thought, Child Parent Institute, Project Graduation, Boys & Girls Club).
The review committee scored applicants on budget, feasibility, goals/metrics and sustainability. Some conditional awards were recommended because items such as target audience, detailed budgets, site permissions or secular marketing materials (for faith‑based events) needed additional documentation. For conditional awards the foundation delegated authority to the executive director to confirm whether those clarifications have been met and to finalize awards.

What’s next: Staff will schedule follow‑up meetings with conditionally recommended applicants to resolve budget or scope questions, hold a grantee kickoff and proceed with grant dispersal and reporting requirements after final determinations.
