SEDA-COG seeks county letter of support for $13 million North Shore CRISI grant; commissioners ask for more documentation

Pasquale Paci, property manager with the SEDA-COG Joint Rail Authority, presented a request for a county letter of support for a federal Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvement (CRISI) grant application due June 22.
"With this grant, we are looking to invest about $13 million on the North Shore Railroad, with a lot of that being in Northumberland County, including 4 miles of rail replacement," Paci said. He added that the Joint Rail Authority planned to match approximately $4 million and asked that counties and municipalities provide letters of support by June 5 so those letters could be submitted with the application.
Commissioners said they were interested in supporting projects that benefit Northumberland County but declined to commit to a letter without more information. County staff indicated they expected three pieces of documentation and invited Paci and the JRA to a work session to present details and answer questions; one commissioner said the board preferred to review grant specifics before affixing the county’s signature to a support letter.
Paci said he was available to meet with commissioners and staff and welcomed the chance to present further details at a work session.
No vote on a letter of support was taken at the May 5 meeting.
