Erie City Council voted May 6 to table a proposed easement that would allow outdoor dining on the public sidewalk at the Flagship City Food Hall (22 North Park Row / 508 State). Council members said they supported the concept of outdoor dining but wanted firm measurements and assurance that any installation would preserve a safe, accessible pedestrian corridor.
Council Member Horton moved to table the item after questions about how the easement would affect pedestrian passage, ADA access for mobility devices and whether celebrations such as Celebrate Erie would be impeded by railings or fenced areas. The council received a brief administrative response that the solicitor’s office typically handles standard easement language and attaches project diagrams, but members requested clearer photos with marked dimensions and suggested councilors inspect the site before the next meeting.
The motion to table carried unanimously (7–0). Administration said the solicitor’s office can work with the applicant to provide an annotated drawing and a compliance checklist and that council members are welcome to visit the site prior to the next meeting.
What’s next: Staff will request detailed drawings and dimensioned photos from the applicant and coordinate site visits so council can evaluate ADA clearance and pedestrian passage before a vote on the easement.
