Janelle, introduced as a representative from the county Tax Claims Bureau, updated commissioners on property-collections and upcoming sales at the May 5 meeting.
"At this point, collections that we have done for all three municipalities as of close of business yesterday, we're at 3,448,000 since January 1st," Janelle said, reporting what she characterized as collections activity and operational staffing changes. She noted an employee of 17 years retired and a new staff member has been on the job about six months.
Janelle outlined the agency’s sales calendar: a hearing scheduled for Thursday would, if approved by the court, set a tentative judicial sale for June 19 (to run as a joint judicial and repository sale). She said the office currently has 22 parcels slated for judicial sale and four parcels designated for repository sale. Looking ahead to the county’s upset sale process in September, she said the bureau “potentially have about 2,022 parcels that are in jeopardy of going into our upset sale this September,” and that roughly 500 parcels may come off the list in the coming three weeks as owners pay in full or enter payment plans.
Janelle also described past upset-sale figures and distribution mechanics: the bureau posted about 802 parcels for last year’s sale, advertised 337 in August, and had 92 remaining on the day of sale. She said of 66 parcels sold at last year’s upset sale, 37 had overbids and the bureau is completing distributions after paying bills that were held against sold properties.
The commission did not take further action on the Tax Claims update at the May 5 meeting.
