Board approves $500,000 settlement, confirms three hires and passes routine resolutions

The New Haven Unified School District board reported on May 6 that it approved, in closed session, a settlement in the case LLJ Jane Doe v. New Haven USD, case No. 22CVO22914 (Alameda County Superior Court), for $500,000 and a dismissal with prejudice.
Following the closed-session report, the board confirmed three personnel actions that were approved unanimously: Abigail Cotson as director of educational options; Megan Foster in an elementary assignment at Kayyama Elementary School; and Matt Harris as an elementary principal at Dellay Eastston Elementary School.
In open session the board adopted resolution 0562425, a declaration of need for fully qualified educators for FY 2025-26, and approved a memorandum of understanding with KY Yo Autism Therapy for the 2024-25 school year. Both motions carried after members moved and seconded and voted.
The board also approved resolutions recognizing student trustees Benji Buofl and Melbaka (resolutions 0542425 and 0552425) and approved consent-agenda items 13.1 through 13.12 with no items pulled.
Meeting minutes indicated motions carried for each item; no roll-call tallies naming individual votes were included in the transcript extract presented at the meeting.
The board agreed to explore the feasibility of forming two new parent advisory committees (AAPI and MENA) at a later meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 8:02 p.m.
